描述：這是D. Yaffe 和 O. Saxel建立的小鼠成肌細胞株的亞克隆(由H. Blau等人構建)。C2C12細胞株分化很快，形成可伸縮的肌管并生成特征性的肌蛋白。 用骨形成蛋白2(BMP-2)處理，導致分化途徑從成肌細胞轉換成成骨細胞。 檢測表明肢骨發育畸形病毒(鼠痘)陰性。
